March Weekly Blog Posts

March 28, 2021

Hi All,

Great news! Thanks to this amazing group — we will re-open the Newton Table Tennis center soon!

We now have 8 members who will pay the membership fees to cover the cost for the new facility. I really appreciate you all. I will announce the center opening date and other details very soon. Members will be getting special information via email next week.

Here are the weekly videos I’ve selected and watched for you. I am still working on my monthly March blog post, hopefully I will finish it by the end of this week.

  • Watch Man vs Robot play. The Omron company has made a robot that can play with humans. Unlike other robots in the market, which just feed you the balls, this one literally plays with you. A very intuitive and innovative robot. (about 9 minutes)

  • Watch a 91-year-old woman playing Ping-Pong. This is the beauty of the sport; you can start playing ping-pong at any age and still enjoy it. She started a few years ago and still enjoys and loves every moment of it. Table tennis is a very flexible sport.

The center is still open for more monthly members. If you’d like to join, please reply and let me know.

Stay safe!

Hi Everyone,

Happy Sunday! I just finished my blog post about “Forehand and Backhand pushes”. I’m also filming and creating a free video series on  “The Fundamentals of Table Tennis”. My first video is ready. See below!

  • To read my blog post about forehand and backhand push strokes, click here.

  • Watch my video on how to do the shakehand grip. In order to execute a stroke, you must know how to hold the racket correctly. There are 2 major grips; the shakehand and the penhold. Holding a racket is a very important part of the game. Once you get a command on the grip then learning the strokes will be much easier.

  • Watch 6 years old Chinese child training. Unlike the coaches here in the USA, in China, the coach not only focuses on the strokes but also physical exercise, shadow practicing, hand-eye coordination right from a very young age. Her parents are also very supportive. (about 3 minutes)

For next week’s email stay tuned for my 2 new videos about the forehand and backhand strokes.

Stay safe!
